Senior Statistical Analyst - Office of Assessment and Decision Support

Requirements

The Senior Statistical Analyst provides leadership for institutionally focused research and advanced statistical analyses across the university, with particular emphases on survey research and analytics focused on the academic enterprise and student experience/success. The Senior Statistical Analyst provides expertise in cross-functional data and information systems to deliver actionable analyses that inform the university's efforts around enrollment, student success, academic management and faculty/staff experience. This position further serves as the university's authority and institutional knowledge leader on survey research and is a sought-after partner for advanced analytic projects. As an authority on advanced statistical analyses, the Senior Statistical Analyst designs and carries out strategic quantitative analytics projects that employ advanced data modeling and statistical techniques (e.g. multivariate analysis, linear and non-linear modeling, longitudinal data analysis, trend analysis, machine learning). Additional duties include, but are not limited to:

  1. In leading the university's survey research efforts, collaborate with senior and executive leaders to develop and implement an overall program of survey research and analysis that supports understanding the experiences, behaviors, attitudes and beliefs of key internal and external constituencies to support strategy and decision making.
  2. Serve as a knowledge leader to students, faculty, and staff across the university who are undertaking local survey research.
  3. In all survey work, combine advanced technical skills in survey research methods, data analysis, reporting and visualization with knowledge of the university context to gather and relay critical information and insights from survey data clearly and accurately.
  4. Communicate findings to a variety of internal and external audiences, often to executive and senior leaders.
  5. Identify opportunities for improvement in business processes and strategies along with providing leadership in the design, creation, and maintenance of solutions to support decision makers.

Work Interactions

This position reports directly to the Associate Vice President of Institutional Data Analytics, works closely with the entire OADS team, and regularly collaborates with senior and executive leadership across campus for the purposes of survey research & strategic analytics. Other interactions include:

  1. Works collaboratively with colleagues in OADS, sharing and exchanging ideas, information and analytical techniques.
  2. Exchanges, analyzes, and interprets information requiring various approaches to inform and influence others, including senior and executive leadership, unit-heads, deans, department chairs, administrative and technical staff, campus peers and peers at professional organizations (COFHE, AIR, NEAIR), federal government agencies (NCES).
  3. Works closely with senior and executive leadership to develop statistical models and effective analytics tools customized to inform strategy and decision making.
  4. Works with faculty and other University leadership in design and execution of survey research as well as in analysis and interpretation of survey results.
  5. Serves as a key member of the Survey Coordinating Group, tasked with oversight of university survey activity as outlined in its policies and procedures.
  6. Collaborates with the university's Institutional Review Board to attend to human subjects protections in survey research.

Requirements and Qualifications

  1. Master's degree in social science field (sociology, psychology, economics, education or a related field) or statistics.
  2. At least 5 years of experience in applied quantitative research; A PhD in a social science field, statistics, or educational research is preferred, as is experience in a higher education setting.

Technical Qualifications

  1. Training and demonstrated experience in the design and execution of quantitative research, including experimental and quasi-experimental design when required.
  2. Training and demonstrated experience with survey instrument development and best practices for survey research (including sample design and post-survey statistical adjustments).
  3. Demonstrated training in and proficiency with common statistical techniques such as linear regression, logistic regression, analysis of variance required; experience with advanced methods for causal inference as well as dimension reduction and/or structural equation modeling preferred.
  4. Proficiency in visual display of information; Experience with one or more qualitative research methods is preferred.
  5. Proficiency in using one or more common statistical packages for code/syntax-based analysis (R strongly preferred; SAS, SPSS, Stata also acceptable).
  6. Advanced proficiency in using web-based tools for survey administration and reporting (Qualtrics strongly preferred; SurveyMonkey, QuestionPro or similar platforms also acceptable) required.
  7. Experience with RStudio, Tidyverse, Quarto, and Shiny development strongly preferred.
  8. Proficiency in one or more data visualization tools preferred (e.g. PowerBI, Tableau, Looker, Plotly, ggplot, etc.).
  9. Familiarity with relational database design concepts required; proficiency using SQL in relational databases is highly desirable as is experience with cloud-based data warehousing technologies (especially Google Cloud Platform/Big Query).
  10. Advanced proficiency with Excel and proficiency with office productivity apps such as Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office 365.

  2. Experience in preparing analytical and research reports that clearly and effectively communicate complex statistical analyses and findings.
  3. Strong project management skills.
  4. Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet established deadlines.
  5. Attention to detail, accuracy and organization.
  6. Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and work efficiently; adept at quickly learning and effectively using new tools and techniques.
  7. Ability to seek help from and provide help to others when needed.
  8. Ability to make positive contributions to team success: to provide and receive constructive feedback, to follow established team practices/guidelines for workflows, documentation and deliverables, and to actively participate in fostering a positive, supportive work environment.

Work Mode Designation

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is: $80,429.00 - $157,238.93.

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
