Job summary

CHIRLA in Sacramento seeks a Deputy Director of State Policy & Advocacy to lead state-level policy development and advocacy. You will guide strategic planning, build relationships with California lawmakers and agencies, and supervise policy staff and a contract lobbyist to advance CHIRLA’s immigrant rights agenda.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree, at least five years in legislative or advocacy work, bilingual English/Spanish, and a track record of nonprofit policy success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• At least five years of legislative experience in the State Capitol.
• At least five years of advocacy or campaign experience.
• Bilingual English/Spanish with excellent oral communication.
• Excellent research and policy development skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Develop annual state policy agenda with Director and Executive Director.
• Lead CHIRLA’s state policy agenda in collaboration with policy leadership.
• Manage CHIRLA’s positions on legislative proposals and regulatory/budget issues.
• Advance CHIRLA goals and implement advocacy strategies and events.
• Develop policy proposals and talking points for advocacy outreach.
• Maintain relationships with legislators, agencies, and Governor’s office; brief leadership.
