Job summary

California Immigrant Policy Center (CIPC) seeks an experienced government affairs leader to advance legislative, budget, and administrative priorities in Sacramento. This role translates community priorities into effective advocacy, builds relationships with decision-makers, and guides staff and lobbyists to secure policies and investments for immigrant communities.

Qualifications

• Deep commitment to immigrant rights, racial and economic justice, and leadership by directly impacted communities.
• Strong command of California’s legislative, budget, and administrative processes with demonstrated success advancing policy or funding priorities.
• Ability to cultivate trusted relationships with public officials, staff, and coalition partners; exercise sound political judgment; negotiate effectively.
• Excellent writing, public speaking, analysis, and project management skills; able to explain complex proposals clearly.

Responsibilities

• Advance the approved legislative, budget, and administrative agenda in partnership with multiple teams and advocates.
• Build and maintain relationships with legislators, Governor’s Office, agencies, and allied organizations.
• Represent CIPC in meetings, hearings, briefings, and negotiations; secure commitments and ensure alignment with positions.
• Monitor developments and provide actionable recommendations to staff and leadership.
• Develop position letters, testimony, briefing materials, and updates; coordinate with policy and communications staff.
• Oversee scorecard development to assess lawmakers’ voting records and inform advocacy strategy.
