Job summary

Google is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to lead IAM policy, platform, and AI initiatives. You will oversee the technical direction for Organization Policies, Regional Security Isolation, and Policy AI, building secure, scalable IAM infrastructure.

You will collaborate with IAM leaders and GCP teams to integrate access control across services, resolve fragmentation, and drive reliable production systems, while mentoring engineers and guiding multi-year programs.

Responsibilities

• Architect the long-term engineering direction for IAM systems, centralizing the authorization evaluation model.

• Advise on IAM capabilities by prototyping and integrating novel AI approaches.
• Build collaborations with GCP leadership to define overarching technical goals for IAM.
• Provide technical oversight and mentor engineering talent.

• Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
• 5 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
• 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.

As Senior Staff Software Engineer for the policy, platform, and AI teams, you will oversee the strategic direction for Organization Policies, Regional Security Isolation, and Policy AI, improving reliability, velocity, and adaptability. You will resolve complex technical problems (like de-fragmenting IAM Policy Enforcement Points) with innovative, centralized evaluation solutions. You will demonstrate deep technical expertise to build a secure, reliable, and scalable infrastructure for Google Cloud, collaborating with IAM leaders to help GCP services integrate access control simply and enforce access control consistently.

• Architect the long-term engineering direction for Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems, resolving platform fragmentation and centralizing the authorization evaluation model for core platforms.
• Serve as the deep-domain technical authority on hyper-reliable infrastructure, leading complex, multi-year engineering programs to ensure fast, scalable, and always-correct IAM enforcement.
• Advise the next-generation evolution of IAM capabilities by identifying, prototyping, and integrating novel AI approaches into reliable production systems.
• Build and influence strategic collaborations with executive Google Cloud Platform (GCP) leadership (Product Managers, Engineering Leads, Technical Program Mangers) to define and drive the overarching technical goal for the IAM space.
• Provide technical oversight and thought leadership while proactively fostering a collaborative culture focused on mentoring and developing engineering talent.
