Job summary

Heron Power is a startup building cutting-edge power electronics for the grid. The Senior Staff Software Engineer will set technical direction for the software platform that powers manufacturing, tooling, and data infrastructure, while writing production code and shaping architecture.

You will collaborate with hardware, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to translate real-world needs into scalable software, mentoring others and raising engineering standards across the organization.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field is required or equivalent demonstrated experience.
• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant time at a Staff or Principal IC level owning the design of large production systems.
• Strong experience building and operating backend services and distributed systems in production with core knowledge of data modeling, APIs, and system design.
• Proficiency in one or more modern languages (Go, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript) and comfort across the stack.
• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS or equivalent), containers, and Kubernetes.
• Experience designing and owning CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling (e.g., GitHub Actions).
• Solid observability, security, and operational best practices expertise.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for major platform systems across backend services, data models, and APIs.
• Write production code and ship software across the stack, defining quality standards for the team.
• Own infrastructure on AWS; define infrastructure as code with Terraform or Pulumi.
• Build and harden CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling to enable fast and safe shipping.
• Design and run Kubernetes deployments with sensible, scalable defaults.
• Define monitoring, alerting, and debugging practices to keep production healthy.
• Mentor engineers, participate in design reviews, and raise engineering standards.
