Job summary

Google is seeking a software engineer to lead the development of audio experiences for Pixel devices, spanning from embedded systems to high-level OS applications.

You will collaborate with senior leaders, product management and audio research teams to drive multi-year roadmap delivery, balancing power, latency and performance constraints to achieve high-quality audio experiences across Pixel and ecosystem devices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of software development experience.
  • 7 years of full stack development from embedded to high-level apps in C++, Java, Python, Kotlin or Go.
  • 5 years with design/architecture and testing/launching software products.
  • Experience with audio technologies (audio systems/features/research).

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with senior leadership, product management and research teams to define the roadmap of audio features for Pixel devices.
  • Implements experiences and features across the stack from embedded to high level OS applications.
  • Leads multi-year engineering efforts across sub-component teams, owning strategy, architectural improvements and program methodologies for Pixel audio quality.
  • Designs architectures enabling solutions within constrained compute environments, considering power, performance, latency and UX tradeoffs.
  • Holds teams accountable for Pixel Audio quality, refining the product to deliver delightful audio experiences.

Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 7 years of experience with full stack development, from embedded to high-level applications, in C++, Java, Python, Kotlin or Go.
  • 5 years of experience with design and architecture; and testing/launching software products.
  • Experience with audio technologies (e.g., audio systems, audio features, audio research, etc).
Preferred qualifications:
  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 20 years of experience delivering consumer electronics products, feature roadmaps, or audio technologies.
  • Experience collaborating and aligning teams across organization and company boundaries, driving partnerships and strategies for market delivery.
  • Experience delivering validation strategies, systemic improvements, and driving best practices to push audio quality to exceptional levels.
  • Experience with full stack systems development, from embedded to high level OS application, including experience managing development power, latency, and performance tradeoffs.
  • Specialization in Audio processing, system optimization, performance tuning and market delivery.

You will initiate, own, and implement strategies driving quality into the Pixel audio stack, leading roadmap delivery alongside senior leadership, product management, and audio research teams while designing scalable architectural improvements. The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world. Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. US: $262000 - $364000 (USD) + 25% bonus target + equity + benefits
