Coinbase is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer on the Exchange team to shape the architectural direction of high-performance trading systems. You will own core domains, influence multiple teams, and drive 24/7 operational readiness in a hybrid, remote-friendly environment based in Atlanta.

Bring 10+ years in software engineering, deep expertise in low-latency distributed systems, and experience with Java/C++/Go. Crypto interest and responsible AI usage are a plus for this high-impact role.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with ownership of production trading, exchange, or market-data systems.
• Deep expertise in low-latency distributed systems and backend languages (Java, C++, or Go).
• Architectural ownership of end-to-end trading platform (order management, multi-venue connectivity, real-time risk).
• Proven track record influencing technical direction across multiple teams without direct authority.
• Experience operating latency-sensitive systems in on-prem/colocated and cloud environments with incident leadership.
• Strong interest in crypto and institutional markets, with ability to ramp quickly.
• Utilizes generative AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical strategy and architecture for a core Exchange domain, driving multi-quarter initiatives.
• Lead the design of ultra-low-latency trading systems spanning matching, risk, and market data across cloud and colocated environments.
• Drive cross-team technical alignment across Exchange, Prime, and Derivatives.
• Set and inspect the quality bar across teams with deterministic testing, failover design, and incident leadership.
• Maintain significant hands-on contribution while leading execution through other senior engineers and tech leads.
• Mentor L5-L6 engineers and build the next rung of technical leadership on a lean team.
