Gusto Senior Staff Software Engineer on the Agent & Partner Experiences team will be a key technical leader responsible for influencing the team and broader organization as we build and scale our platform. You'll split time between hands-on Ruby on Rails development and guiding others to deliver a high‑quality experience across our API and AI integration.

Qualifications

12+ years of professional software development experience.
Ruby on Rails expert; experience navigating large Rails apps.
Designed and built platforms and public-facing APIs; reliability & performance at scale.
Mentored others and helped raise the technical bar across the organization.
Able to translate business priorities into technical goals and constraints.

Responsibilities

Identify and solve high-impact problems across multiple domains.
Design API contracts and agent-facing tools for partners and AI agents.
Engage with developer-customers and internal agent partners to deliver a payroll product.
Ship code that is clean, tested, and performant.
Level up engineering craft with technical guidance and mentoring.
Maintain best practices for reliability and observability.
Troubleshoot and resolve production issues.
