Shield AI is seeking a skilled machine learning engineer to design, train, and deploy advanced vision and vision-language models for autonomous systems in defense contexts. You will collaborate with researchers and engineers to bring cutting-edge AI into production for defense customers.

The role emphasizes scalable data pipelines, supervised fine-tuning workflows, and optimized inference on embedded hardware using TensorRT/ONNX, contributing to robust, mission-ready capabilities.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor's, or 9 years with a Master’s, or 7 years with a PhD.
• Mastery of machine learning fundamentals.
• Experience training and deploying ML models for computer vision in production.
• Strong understanding of 3D vision problems and algorithms.
• Proficiency with PyTorch and TensorFlow.
• Demonstrated expertise deploying models with TensorRT and ONNX.
• Proficiency in C++ and Python.
• Ability to obtain a SECRET clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design, train, fine-tune, and maintain state-of-the-art vision, vision-language, and vision-language-action models.
• Build scalable data pipelines and SFT workflows for model evaluation.
• Deploy and optimize ML models on embedded hardware using ONNX, TensorRT, and related frameworks.
• Apply ML techniques to perception and autonomy tasks across aerial and autonomous systems.
• Translate ML research into production-ready capabilities balancing performance and efficiency.
• Collaborate with perception, autonomy, platform, and software teams to integrate ML into mission-ready systems.
• Develop benchmarks and evaluation methods to measure model performance and guide improvements.
• Improve training infrastructure and deployment workflows to accelerate experimentation.
