Atoms is building the machines that power the next era of progress in the physical world. We seek a Senior Staff Machine Learning Engineer focused on Perception to lead the architecture and development of real-world perception systems using camera, LiDAR, radar, and audio data.

You will work across sensor modalities to define architectures, explore world models, and connect perception to reasoning and planning in production environments.

Qualifications

• Deep expertise in machine learning and computer vision, building sophisticated perception systems.
• Strong understanding of modern deep learning architectures for multimodal perception.
• Experience with real-world sensor modalities (cameras, LiDAR, radar, audio, depth sensors).
• Experience with sensor fusion, multimodal learning, 3D perception, scene understanding.
• Understanding full ML lifecycle: data strategy, training, evaluation, deployment.
• Designing ML systems under latency, compute, reliability constraints.
• Hands-on software engineering in Python and/or C++.
• Proven technical leadership and architectural decision-making.
• Ability to communicate complex ideas across research and engineering.

Responsibilities

• Define and build the architecture for next-generation perception systems.
• Develop ML systems transforming multimodal sensor inputs into representations of the environment.
• Advance multi-sensor and multimodal fusion for real-world settings.
• Design DL architectures for detection, segmentation, tracking, and 3D perception.
• Explore foundation models and world models in perception pipelines.
• Build perception systems to support downstream reasoning and planning.
• Make decisions on data, model design, training, evaluation, and deployment.
• Balance model quality with latency, compute, and reliability constraints.
• Establish evaluation methodologies and metrics for real-world performance.
• Collaborate with researchers across world models, robotics, and ML infrastructure.
• Provide technical leadership through reviews, mentorship, and direction.
• Help identify exceptional engineering and research talent.
