Job summary

Metropolis Technologies is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer, Recognition Platform to own the Metropolis Recognition Platform and guide architecture across edge-to-cloud pipelines, real-time decisioning, and cross-functional collaboration with engineering, data, security, and legal teams.

You will set technical direction, write RFCs, drive alignment, and lead high-volume streaming pipelines while balancing deterministic logic with probabilistic signals.

Qualifications

• 12+ years building distributed, data-intensive systems.
• Proven cross-functional technical leadership to align multiple teams.
• Proficiency in JVM languages (Java/Scala) and service-oriented design.
• Hands-on with high-throughput ingestion pipelines and tail latency considerations.
• Experience with rules/decisioning systems blending deterministic and probabilistic signals.
• Strong integration with third-party APIs and vendor constraints.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end architecture across edge ingestion, identity resolution, decisioning, notification, and operator surfaces.
• Drive cross-functional alignment and resolve ownership ambiguities across teams and partners.
• Evolve streaming pipelines on a scalable backbone, optimize for tail latency and backpressure.
• Design rules and decisioning layers for real-time actions (watchlists, routing, eligibility).
• Establish explicit thresholds and cost reasoning for recognition errors; enable model testing tooling.
• Collaborate with Legal and Security on privacy, consent models and opt-out propagation.
• Own production quality via SLOs, runbooks, and progressive rollout with feature flags.
• Mentor teams and elevate technical standards through code/design reviews.
