Job summary

The Washington Post seeks a Senior Staff Software Engineer to lead Arc XP's next-generation rendering platform. You will operate at architecture and implementation levels, partnering with architects, PMs and senior engineers to translate strategy into scalable production systems.

You will design edge rendering, server-island patterns, and platform APIs to enable AI-assisted content creation and delivery at scale, while guiding reliability, observability, and cost across complex systems.

Qualifications

8+ years designing, building, and operating scalable software systems
Experience providing technical leadership and architecture for large initiatives
Deep knowledge of modern web rendering, distributed/event-driven systems, APIs and caching
Strong experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and modern web frameworks
Experience in high-traffic systems focusing on performance and reliability

Responsibilities

Lead technical design and implementation of Arc XP's rendering and Experience Composition capabilities
Design edge-rendering architectures and shift from TTL-driven to event-driven models
Define scalable platform and API capabilities for reuse and customization
Shape APIs for AI systems to create, compose, and update pages and components
Provide senior technical leadership across Rendering, Delivery, Themes, and PageBuilder Editor
Mentor engineers through architecture discussions and reviews
Develop and operate scalable services using TypeScript, Node.js, React, Go, AWS
