Job summary

Samsung Semiconductor is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer to design and standardize the EDA design environments and large-scale compute infrastructure across our semiconductor design teams. You will establish company-wide standards for EDA licensing and R&D software, and drive efficiency at scale.

You will architect and operate shared environments, oversee license contracts and server operations, and lead compute farm optimization.

Qualifications

  • 15 years in CAD/CAE, EDA infrastructure, or engineering IT within semiconductor design environments.
  • Experience building and operating EDA design environments and providing technical support to design organizations.
  • Experience with EDA license contract management, license server operations and utilization-based capacity optimization.
  • Experience building and operating large-scale compute farms with IBM LSF (or SLURM, Grid Engine) and tuning job scheduling.
  • Experience deploying and operating remote desktop / user login environments (Exceed TurboX, VNC, X11).
  • Hands-on large-scale Linux system administration experience.
  • Working knowledge of license management systems (FlexLM/FlexNet) and the major EDA tool ecosystems (Cadence, Synopsys, Siemens).
  • Automation and scripting proficiency in Python, Perl, Tcl, or shell.
  • Track record of establishing and rolling out standards and processes across multiple organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Define EDA design environment standards and enablement, onboarding, tool qualification, version control, and support for design organizations.
  • Lead license contracts, management, and capacity optimization; monitor utilization and forecast demand to reduce costs.
  • Define roadmaps for EDA design environments and infrastructure aligned with design needs.
  • Build and optimize LSF compute farms including cluster architecture, queues, resource policies, and scheduling.
  • Build, operate, and support user login environments (Exceed TurboX, VNC, X11).
  • Govern and migrate DevOps platforms (Jira, Confluence) across teams.
  • Drive portfolio management for Enterprise R&D software to consolidate and standardize tools.

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Staff Engineer to build and optimize the EDA design environment and large-scale compute infrastructure that supports our semiconductor design organizations, and to establish company-wide standards and processes for EDA licensing and R&D software. In this role, you will design and standardize the shared design environments and infrastructure used across multiple design organizations, driving engineering productivity and cost efficiency at scale.


Samsung DSA has launched a new AI initiative to build the foundational capabilities for practical, agentic AI systems. The AI Innovation team is the driving force behind this vision, leading innovation at the intersection of machine learning and system engineering to develop and operate our next-generation Agentic AI framework. We aim to enable LLMs to autonomously plan, retrieve information, coordinate with tools, and execute multi-step workflows across our internal knowledge ecosystem. We are actively seeking talented Machine Learning Engineers specializing in building next-generation AI/ML solutions.


Location: Daily onsite presence at our San Jose, CA office / U.S. headquarters in alignment with our Flexible Work policy


What You’ll Do


  • EDA design standards and environment enablement - Define standard processes and guidelines for design flow onboarding, tool qualification, and version control; set up, deploy, operate, and provide technical support for the EDA tool environments used by design organizations

  • EDA license contracts, management, and capacity optimization - Lead vendor relationship management and contract negotiations and renewals; determine appropriate license quantities through utilization monitoring and demand forecasting; optimize cost by identifying and reallocating idle licenses; own the architecture and operation of license servers

  • EDA design environment and infrastructure roadmap - Define the roadmap and prioritize requirements from design organizations

  • LSF compute farm buildout and optimization - Cluster architecture design, queue and resource policy definition, job scheduling tuning, utilization-driven performance improvement, and capacity planning

  • User login environment (Exceed TurboX, ETX) - Build, operate, and establish the user support model

  • Engineering collaboration and DevOps platforms (Jira, Confluence) - Own governance, upgrades, and migrations

  • Enterprise R&D software portfolio management - Drive consolidation and standardization


What You Bring


  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field

  • 15 years in CAD/CAE, EDA infrastructure, or engineering IT within semiconductor design environments
