Gusto is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer for the Benefits Advisory team in New York. You will shape the benefits platform with a focus on scalable, AI-enhanced shopping, renewal flows, and cross-functional collaboration.

This full-stack role emphasizes architecture, high-quality code, and mentoring engineers. You’ll work to deliver AI-driven interfaces and scalable services, partnering with Marketing, Sales, and Operations to translate business needs into technical solutions.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience building scalable full-stack web applications with frontend (React, TypeScript) and backend (API, data modeling, DB design).
• Extensive experience building AI interfaces and applying AI tools to accelerate development.
• Strong CI/CD and observability practices; able to mentor engineers on AI-native design patterns.

Responsibilities

• Architect and evolve customer-facing web platforms with a focus on scale and performance.
• Build AI interfaces to assist customers and enable rapid product iteration.
• Design, build, and maintain shared services for rapid feature delivery.
• Implement and optimize key workflows for best-in-class UX.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code across the stack using AI-powered tooling.
• Support, mentor, and raise engineering bar for AI-native design patterns.
• Partner across Marketing, Sales, Operations and Leadership to align technical solutions with business needs.
• Influence the technical roadmap for the Benefits Advisory platform to fit AI-native strategy.
