Our client is a ground-floor healthcare robotics startup building a first-of-its-kind, autonomous pharmacy dispensing system. Operating at the intersection of AI, real-time hardware integration, safety-critical software, and regulated medical technology, they are solving one of the most pressing issues in modern healthcare.
Across the country, over 4,000 pharmacies close each year, expanding healthcare deserts and limiting patient access to essential medications. Our client's mission is to reverse this trend by deploying automated, high-precision dispensing systems at scale-ensuring medications reach patients safely, accurately, and efficiently.
They operate as a lean, high-trust team with zero bureaucracy, high autonomy, and direct access to executive leadership (reporting directly to the CTO/Co-founder). If you thrive on solving hard engineering challenges in hardware and robotics with a direct, life-changing human impact, this team is built for you.
About The Role
As a Senior/Staff Electrical Engineer, you will own the end-to-end design of complex electrical subsystems - from requirements capture through schematic, layout, prototyping, and production bring-up - on our client's flagship autonomous robotic dispensing system. This role carries significant technical ownership and offers the opportunity to shape both the hardware architecture and the team's engineering standards in a regulated pharmaceutical environment.
What You'll Do
- Full Lifecycle Subsystem Design: Own electrical subsystems across power distribution, motor drives, sensor interfaces, and mixed-signal circuits - from initial requirements through schematic, layout, prototyping, and production bring-up.
- Schematics & PCB Layout: Create and maintain schematics, PCB layouts, and bills of materials (BOMs), following established release processes while driving improvements to team-wide design, documentation, and test standards.
- Component Selection: Evaluate and qualify sensors, actuators, and power management components specifically for use in a regulated pharmaceutical environment.
- Testing & Validation: Define and execute testing specifications across subsystems to guarantee intended functionality and safe operating conditions. Document findings, root causes, and lessons learned to drive continuous improvement.
- Hardware Troubleshooting: Investigate and resolve challenging hardware issues across prototyping and production phases, including signal integrity, thermal management, and EMC/EMI compliance.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with firmware and mechanical engineers to co-develop interface definitions, connector pinouts, harness routing, and integration test plans.
- Design for Excellence: Apply DFM (Design for Manufacturability), DFT (Design for Testability), and supply chain considerations to ensure all designs are production-ready from day one.
What You Bring
- Experience: 5-10+ years of hands-on electrical engineering experience across multiple complete product development cycles, with demonstrated technical leadership on multi-board or multi-subsystem products.
- Subsystem Ownership: A proven track record of taking complex electrical subsystems end-to-end from blank-page requirements through production bring-up.
- Domain Expertise: Deep hands-on experience designing and validating circuits for power electronics, motor control, sensor interfaces, or mixed-signal design (with broad working familiarity across the others).
- Tools & Bench Skills: Proficiency in schematic capture, PCB layout, and BOM management using industry-standard tools (Altium, KiCad, or equivalent). Strong hands-on bench skills to bring up new boards and drive issues to root cause.
- Standards & Compliance: Experience driving design reviews and contributing to team-wide engineering standards. Familiarity with compliance testing and design practices related to EMC, safety, or environmental standards.
- Documentation Habits: Strong discipline in documenting design rationale, characterization test results, and post-mortem lessons learned.
