This Senior Staff Attorney role is an in-house, remote position that will handle a designated caseload of Tort/Liability defense matters in addition to Workers’ Compensation matters. This requires extensive experience with and strong working knowledge of Pennsylvania civil litigation as well as Pennsylvania workers’ compensation litigation practice, including handling civil matters at the Common Pleas level through the Appellate courts, and workers’ compensation matters at multiple levels such as the judicial level, PA Appeal Board, and Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court.

Responsibilities:
  1. Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive and develop well-reasoned legal research.
  2. Independently create and present defense strategies on behalf of clients.
  3. Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions, and briefs in support of defense strategies with autonomy.
  4. Partner with Claims Partners to achieve the best results for our insured.
  5. Provide effective and timely communications, legal advice, and services to clients on legal and factual issues.
  6. Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel professionally and discreetly.
  7. Facilitate prompt, efficient, and effective case dispositions.
  8. Prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, hearings, arbitrations, and dispute resolutions.
  9. Research, draft, file, and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts.
  10. Participate in team huddles and provide in-house training to junior associates and claims partners.
  11. Participate in claims file reviews and attend continuing legal education seminars.
Qualifications:
  1. Minimum of 5 years of legal practice handling tort defense and complex workers’ compensation cases.
  2. JD from an accredited law school and license to practice in Pennsylvania.
  3. First-chair jury trial experience required.
  4. Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
  5. Positive, collaborative team-player attitude.
  6. Strong legal research, writing, and communication skills.
  7. Proficiency with MS Office, Word, Lexis Nexis; experience with Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook is a plus.
  8. Ability to quickly leverage new software as required.
Additional Information:

This remote position is within Western Pennsylvania, with travel within the state, especially around Western Pennsylvania.

Requirements include high-speed broadband internet (minimum speeds of 5Mbps upload / 30Mbps download), hardwired connection, and other technical specifications.

Compensation:

The annual base pay range is $128,000 - $192,000, based on market analysis, performance, and competencies. Compensation may also include bonuses, incentives, and recognition programs.
