About:

We are a high-impact, plaintiffs-only law firm handling complex and high-stakes litigation. Our cases focus on personal injury litigation, and we are known for our aggressive, strategic approach in the courtroom.

The Mass Tort Associate Attorney plays a crucial role in driving results for the firm’s expansive mass tort practice. This position is focused on the core elements of mass tort practice: finding the “hot docs,” digging deep into case discovery; assisting with, taking and defending depositions; working with expert witnesses, and preparing cases for trial.

This is not your typical Associate role. We’re looking for someone who wants to own parts of cases, think like a trial lawyer from day one, and be mentored by seasoned litigators who will give you real responsibility and litigation experience. This is an exceptional opportunity for an attorney looking to practice at the cutting edge of complex and mass tort litigation with a dynamic and collaborative team.

Responsibilities:

  • Navigate all phases of litigation, including pleadings, discovery, motion practice, and bellwether/trial preparation.
  • Assist, and lead (depending on experience) in discovery efforts, including identifying key documents, assisting with and deposing witnesses, and preparing discovery responses.
  • Assist with and conduct and defend depositions (fact and expert).
  • Draft pleadings, motions (including dispositive and evidentiary motions), discovery requests/responses, fact sheets, and other critical litigation documents.
  • Work closely with expert witnesses – from vetting to preparation.
  • Participate in trial preparation, including theme development, witness outlines, exhibits, and pretrial filings.
  • Assist in courtroom trial work, depending on experience.
  • Collaborate with partners and senior attorneys on high-level strategy and execution.
  • Capacity to manage complex legal matters both independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications:

  • A Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
  • 3-5 years of litigation experience preferred, but all motivated candidates will be considered
  • Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
  • A passion for trial work and a “find-a-way” mentality
  • Comfortable taking initiative and owning parts of a case
  • Experience with complex civil litigation, commercial litigation, or similar is a plus
  • Clerkship experience is a bonus, not a requirement
  • Exemplifies Chaffin Luhana LLP’s Core Values of Doing Good by Doing Right : Results Driven, Excellence Without Paralysis, Compassionate and Authentic, In It Together, and Innovative Growth.
  • Adheres to all government and industry regulations, including settlement disbursements and the protection of regulated sensitive data.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving mindset, with the ability to identify process improvements and implement solutions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all Confidential Information of clients and of the company.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and time management skills.
  • Ability to handle frequent pressures, time deadlines, and multi-task.
  • 401k Contributions: The firm offers a discretionary match up to 5%. This includes a 100% match on the first 3% of contributions and a 50% match on the next 2%, based on annual compensation.
  • Charitable Donations: The Chaffin Luhana Foundation makes an annual donation to a charity of each team member’s choice.
