Sr Staff Attorney - LM07DE

As an in-house Senior Staff Attorney for The Hartford you will join a collaborative, team-oriented contemporary work environment which includes a strong focus on work-life balance. We are proud to offer a comprehensive benefits package to promote total well-being for our employees! Our Senior Staff Attorney will litigate cases throughout the state of Georgia. The selected individual will be required to work closely with our claim centers and insureds to deliver the best possible result in pending litigation. Our ideal candidate will be part of a unique team responsible for providing top quality representation of The Hartford for litigated matters involving Auto and General Liability (product & premises) files. These cases will be handled from inception thru trial resolution.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive and develop well-reasoned legal research.
  2. Independently create and present defense strategies on behalf of clients.
  3. Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies with autonomy.
  4. Attend hearings and other court appearances, depositions, and trial with autonomy.
  5. Partner with our claims partners to achieve the best results for our Hartford insured.
  6. Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice and other services to clients on legal and factual issues.
  7. Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel with professional diplomacy and discretion.
  8. Facilitate prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned cases.
  9. Independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, hearings, arbitrations and alternative dispute resolutions.
  10. Research, draft, file and argue substantive motions on behalf of clients.
  11. Provide in-house training to junior associates and/or claims partners.
  12. Attend continuing legal education seminars to maintain high level of professional expertise.
Qualifications:
  1. Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school and a license to practice in the state of Georgia is required
  2. Minimum of 7 years of legal practice with demonstrable verdict experience within insurance defense
  3. First chair jury trial experience is strongly preferred
  4. Legal research and motion practice expertise
  5. Positive-minded and collaborative team-player attitude
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  7. Solid MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook)
  8. Lexis Nexis experience is a plus!
  9. Self-directed aptitude with excellent organizational and prioritization skills
Additional Information:
  1. This is a remote work position and the selected candidate will work from his/her home in the Georgia geography.
  2. This position requires 10-15% of travel within the state of Georgia for court and file related appearances.
  3. For full-time, occasional, part-time or remote positions: (1) high speed broadband internet service is required, we do not recommend or support DSL, wireless, Wifi, Hotspots, Fiber without a modem and Satellite; (2) Internet provider supplied modem/router/gateway is hardwired to the Hartford issued computer with an ethernet cable; and (3) minimum upload/download speeds of 5Mbps/30Mbps will be required.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is: $123,360 - $185,040
