Job summary

AALDEF seeks a Senior Staff Attorney to work across the Immigrant Rights Program, focusing on the Network. The attorney will supervise removal-defense matters, mentor Network attorneys, and represent clients in complex immigration cases. Hybrid role with occasional additional support for other Asian immigrant communities.

The position requires a J.D. and NY bar admission, with at least seven years in immigration law and experience mentoring attorneys. Evening/weekend hours may be needed.

Qualifications

• Commitment to movement lawyering and social justice.
• Seven years of immigration-law practice with removal-defense experience.
• Strong legal research, writing, and litigation skills.
• Experience supervising or mentoring attorneys.
• Ability to manage multiple time-sensitive matters collaboratively.
• Willingness to seek admission in New York.
• Experience with Southeast Asian refugee communities is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Supervise complex removal-defense matters and develop case strategies.
• Represent clients in immigration court and federal avenues including BIA and USCIS.
• Mentor Network attorneys and provide technical legal assistance.
• Develop screening/referral protocols and model filings for the Network.
• Identify systemic issues and contribute to impact litigation and policy advocacy.
• Conduct legal clinics and know-your-rights trainings for communities.
