Duties:

SUNY New Paltz is seeking a 0.75 FTE, field placement coordinator with experience in School Counseling and/or Clinical Mental Health Counseling to join its CACREP-accredited and growing Counselor Education Department. The individual will coordinate the practicum and internship placements in school and mental health counseling for the Counselor Education Department. Candidates who bring diverse cultural experience and who are especially qualified to mentor and advise all members of our diverse student population are especially encouraged to apply. This position will start by October 1, 2026.

Specific Requirements For This Position Include

• Commitment to training counseling students.
• Coordinating and overseeing practicum and internship placements for all school counseling and mental health counseling students.
• Establishing and maintaining relationships with practicum and internship sites and supervisors, including mental health agencies, clinics, hospitals, school districts, and individual schools;
• Ensuring that practicum and internship sites, supervisors, and placement processes meet departmental, institutional, and CACREP requirements.
• Securing and maintaining affiliation agreements between the College and placement sites; and managing associated administrative requirements and documentation.
• Providing students with all necessary procedural and site information to ensure their readiness and ability to apply and enroll in practicum and internship courses.
• Providing training sessions for supervisors to ensure they are appropriately trained and understand the roles, responsibilities, and expectations of themselves, their institutions, the counselor education program, and the counselor education students.
• Serving as a primary liaison among students, site supervisors, faculty, and community partners regarding placement-related questions, concerns, and challenges.

Qualifications: Required

• Master’s degree in Counseling, Counselor Education, School Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, or a closely related field.
• Post-master’s professional experience as a School Counselor, Clinical Mental Health Counselor, or in a closely related counseling setting.
• Strong organizational skills and demonstrated experience independently managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
• Knowledge of or exposure to the clinical requirements of a counselor education program.
• Demonstrated awareness/knowledge of inequalities and challenges faced by historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged groups.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with schools, mental health agencies, clinical providers, supervisors, and other community partners.
• The ability to work effectively and collegially with students, staff, and faculty, and a community who are from intersecting marginalized social groups.

Preferred

• Graduate degree from a CACREP-accredited counseling program.
• New York State certification as a School Counselor and/or licensure as a Mental Health Counselor.
• Demonstrated experience working with clinical field placements, practicum/internship programs, counselor supervision, or the coordination of experiential/clinical education.
• Experience interpreting and applying professional, accreditation, institutional, or regulatory requirements, for example, CACREP standards governing practicum, internship, fieldwork sites, and supervision.
