Montgomery County Public Schools in Rockville, MD, seeks a Staff Accountant in the Department of Controller. This full-time, 8 hours per day, 12-month position involves payroll accounting, payroll systems, system development, and special projects.

The role requires knowledge of federal and state payroll tax laws and automated payroll systems, with responsibilities for day-to-day payroll operations. The candidate should have a bachelor's degree in accounting or related field (master's preferred)

Formación

• Substantial knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices and their application in complex accounting environments.
• Thorough knowledge of computer technology to improve business practices; client/server and desktop applications and database reporting tools.
• Ability to analyze and evaluate business processes using continuous improvement principles.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of SSPGS core competencies.
• Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree preferred; CPA desirable.

Responsabilidades

• Performs technical work involving payroll accounting, payroll computer systems, system development and maintenance, and special projects.
• Coordinates accounting and computer operations for current and future payroll systems and oversees MCPS's payroll operations.
• Maintains and analyzes financial reports and statements; balances and reconciles transactions across cycles.
• Reviews accounting processes and participates in system development and design projects to improve efficiency.
• Overtime and night work required.
