Dynamic Office & Accounting Solutions in Santa Fe Springs, CA seeks a Senior Staff Accountant- Construction to lead the day-to-day accounting for multiple construction projects. The role offers visibility with executive leadership, ownership of the close process, and a path to Controller as the company expands.

You will oversee GL, payroll, job costing, and project billing, ensuring accurate financials and compliance with prevailing wage requirements while driving process improvements and staff

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience within the construction industry.

Responsibilities

• Own daily accounting operations: GL, AP, AR, payroll, project billing.

Salary Range: $100,000 - $125,000 annually

We are actively seeking an Senior Staff Accountant- Construction to join a growing specialty construction organization focused on infrastructure, utility, and project-based work. This highly visible, seat-at-the-table role offers the rare opportunity to partner directly with executive leadership while leading the day-to-day accounting function in a fast-paced union construction environment. What You'll Be Responsible For

• Own daily accounting operations, including general ledger activity, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and project billing.
• Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities while ensuring accurate, audit-ready, and timely financial reporting.
• Manage construction job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and project financial analysis across multiple projects.
• Partner cross-functionally with project managers and operations leaders to monitor project performance, profitability, costs, and budget adherence.
• Prepare cash flow forecasts, evaluate liquidity needs, and support working capital planning initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with union payroll requirements, certified payroll reporting, prevailing wage regulations, and labor compliance obligations.
• Coordinate labor allocations, fringe benefit reporting, and payroll remittances.
• Maintain strong working relationships with banking partners, bonding companies, auditors, insurance providers, and external advisors.
• Evaluate and improve accounting processes, internal controls, systems, and reporting capabilities to support growth.
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff while helping expand and develop the accounting function into a full Controller-led team.

To Be Successful in This Role, You'll Bring

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience within the construction industry is required.
• Construction industry accounting experience is a non-negotiable requirement. Candidates without construction accounting experience will not be considered.
• Experience working for a construction contractor in a union environment is strongly preferred.
• Strong technical expertise in construction job costing, percentage-of-completion accounting, and work-in-progress (WIP) reporting.
• Hands-on experience managing union payroll, certified payroll reporting, fringe benefits, labor burden allocations, and labor compliance requirements.
• Proven success leading financial close processes and preparing accurate financial statements and management reports.
• Experience overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and project billing within a construction environment.
• Working knowledge of cash flow forecasting, liquidity management, and working capital planning.
• Experience building trusted relationships with project teams, ownership, financial institutions, auditors, and bonding partners.
• Systems-savvy with construction accounting software such as ProContractor, Viewpoint/Vista, Foundation, Sage, or similar platforms.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
• Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities, paired with a detail-obsessed, roll-up-your-sleeves mindset.
• A genuine desire to grow with the company and step into the Controller role as the business scales.
