Job summary

Central Arizona Shelter Services in Phoenix seeks a Senior Accountant to manage general accounting functions, with a focus on accounts payable, budgeting, ledger adjustments, reconciliations, financial statements, and audit preparation for the Agency and its affiliates.

This role serves as a back-up for grant and contract billing and accounts receivable, and requires preparing work papers and analysis projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in accounting.
  • Demonstrated communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • Highly analytical and organized with attention to deadlines, priorities and details.
  • Team-oriented, self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision and attention to deadlines.
  • 5+ Years Experience in non-profit accounting preferred.
  • Experience in government funding and management preferred.
  • Sage MIP fund accounting software knowledge is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of Accounting Activities for the Agency and its affiliates.
  • Track and record expenses related to government contracts and funding reports to provide accurate invoices to funders.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets for the agency, programs and contracts.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals and allocations.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly budget to actual reports, research variances.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, investment accounts, and accruals monthly.
  • Maintain fixed asset worksheets and year-end depreciation entries.
  • Prepare financial reports/statements for review by the supervisor.
  • Participate in annual audits and monitoring by grantors.
  • Prepare Intercompany reconciliation work papers.

Job description

Job Title: Senior Accountant Supervisor: Chief Financial Officer

Job Status: Salary Exempt

Job Summary: Process (prepare, review & approve) all general accounting functions, including: primarily focused on accounts payables, budgeting; general ledger adjusting journal entries; account reconciliations; financial statements; and audit prep for the Agency and its affiliates. This individual will serve as serving as a back-up for grant and contract billing and accounts receivables. Prepare work papers and analysis projects as needed.

Essential Functions:
  1. Manage all aspects of Accounting Activities for the Agency and its affiliates, including:
    • a) Track and record all appropriate expenses related to government contracts and funding reports to provide accurate invoices to funders.
    • b) Assist in the preparation of the agency, program and contract budgets;
    • c) Prepare and review journal entries, accruals and allocations;
    • d) Prepare and analyze monthly budget to actual reports, research material variances;
    • e) Reconcile bank accounts, investment accounts, and accruals on a monthly basis;
    • f) Maintain fixed asset worksheets and prepare the necessary year end depreciation entries;
    • g) Prepare in a timely fashion financial reports/statements for the review by the supervisor;
    • h) Participate in and prepare for annual audits and monitoring by grantors;
    • i) Prepare Intercompany reconciliation work papers.
Other Duties:
  1. Maintain organized records and filing system;
  2. Serve as backup for the Finance Director position;
  3. Perform other duties as required.
