The following is the basic job description of the Senior Staff Accountant position as of the above date. This position reports directly to the Controller/Accounting Director and indirectly to the Accounting Manager.
Job Classification: Exempt position
Basic Function: The Senior Staff Accountant position is responsible for preparing, maintaining, and analyzing the financial records to track the Company’s assets, liabilities, profit/loss and tax liabilities to enhance the accuracy of the Company’s reported financial results, and ensures that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles, applicable taxing jurisdictions and other related financial activities. They are a partner in reviewing current internal controls, strategizing for the future control environment, and reporting activities designed to mitigate risk. SES as a company seeks to exceed in customer satisfaction, and this role is integral in executing operational excellence that results in reduced friction for customers both internal and external. This position will report to the Controller/Accounting Director and will assist in providing financial and analytical reports to corporate and regional management.
The ideal candidate understands the underlying nature of business transactions and how they flow to the general ledger. They will promote interdepartmental communication and collaboration for the benefit of information flow between relevant stakeholders regarding accounting and corresponding internal controls and financial reporting. They will have a strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). A willingness to embrace the philosophy of “work smarter, not harder,” coupled with the understanding that sometimes you just need to roll up your sleeves and dig in is critical.
Essential Functions:
- Supports the transaction-processing operations accounting needs and assists with internal controls in these areas (i.e.: Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Inventory)
- Conducts monthly closing from journal entries through financial statements including, but not limited to, the following:
- Accounts Receivable / Accounts Payable Aging Reconciliations
- Vendor Receivables Reconciliations
- Balance Sheet analysis and review
- Income Statement analysis and review
- Assists with the creation of new complex financial accounting work processes, systems, and procedures for efficient workflow and conformity with accounting principles that are scalable and align with the company’s overall goal of elevating our people.
- Engages with Controller and external accountants to best identify the internal controls and security needed of all automated accounting applications to ensure conformity with relevant standards, such as accounting, auditing, operational, or regulatory, to develop practices that streamline both operational and accounting related requirements and objectives.
- Collaborates with Staff Accountant to prepare, review, and file corporate filings, sales tax returns, property tax filings, and other compliance-related matters.
- Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices for both GAAP and income tax accounting policies and procedures.
- Supports organizational goals by collaborating across departments and contributing to accounting and operational projects that drive business success.

Required Education, Experience and/or Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting and work experience in a related field
- MBA or MAcc preferred
- CPA certification [or in process of CPA certification (e.g. taken at least one part of the exam at time of job application and studying / scheduling remaining parts)] is required
- 3 + years of progressively responsible experience as accountant designation in public accounting field
- Proven ability in creating accurate, insightful analysis and reports.
- Polished, articulate presenter of information to a variety of audiences.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Any professional associations if deemed necessary
- Must be committed to providing exceptional service at all times.
Metrics for Success:
- Month-End Close Cycle Time: Number of days to complete the monthly close process.
- Journal Entry Accuracy Rate: Percentage of journal entries submitted without errors or rework.
- Reconciliation Completion Rate: Timeliness and completeness of account reconciliations (e.g., 100% of key accounts reconciled monthly).
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopier, and standard software suite(s), such as the ERP system, and the Microsoft Suite of products.
