Midsouth Steel, a leader in steel fabrication and construction, located by the Atlanta Airport, has an immediate need for an experienced Senior Staff Accountant. This is a full-time position with a company offering great culture, pay, and growth opportunity.
Overview
The Accountant position is responsible for all aspects of Manufacturing and Production costing analysis and inventory for the company. The Staff Accountant is responsible for comparing standard cost to actual cost and identifying and explaining variances by customer and production jobs. The accountant must also work closely with engineering and manufacturing personnel to resolve variances. The position will also be responsible for general ledger accounting duties as well.
Roles & Responsibilities
1. Develop and maintain cost accounting system that ensures accurate costing
2. Produce daily production, variance and ad hoc reports
3. Review and analyze standard and actual costs for variances and prepare reports
4. Update standard costs and ensure accuracy
5. Prepare, analyze and report monthly gross margin analysis by customer, part number and production jobs
6. Analyze changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods, or services to determine effects on costs
7. Study and collect data to determine costs of business activities such as raw material purchases, inventory and labor
8. Assist in account reconciliation of physical inventories and cycle counts
9. Assist in month-end and year-end closing by analyzing inventory and preparing supplemental reports as needed
10. Work on special projects as required
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or similar and three (3) to five (5) years in manufacturing cost accounting experience is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
1. Significant hands-on experience using an integrated ERP system. EXPERIENCE WITH VIEWPOINT IS A HUGE PLUS.
2.Proficiency in Excel, experience in manipulating large databases a plus
3. Solid understanding of manufacturing operations, inventory and cost accounting
4. Understanding of U.S. GAAP as it applies to a manufacturing environment is required
5. Strong analytical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
6. Extraordinary interpersonal skills to work in conjunction with other departments.
7. Must be a team player who also works well independently.
8. Must be able to analyze data, draw conclusions, interpret results, and make recommendations.
