Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a senior backend engineer in the US Midwest to design and build secure SSO and identity-broker services. You will create scalable REST APIs and integrate with federation protocols such as SAML, OpenID Connect, and OAuth 2.0.

The role emphasizes automated testing, ADRs, and cross-team collaboration to deliver reliable software. You will own complex components from design through testing, while using AI-assisted tools to accelerate delivery and maintainability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher with substantial backend/software engineering experience.
• Experience building enterprise/server-side APIs in Python.
• Strong design skills for distributed systems and tradeoff communication.
• Proven automated testing and modern software development practices.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools in day-to-day engineering.
• Experience with spec-driven development practices.
• Experience building REST APIs using OpenAPI and code-generation workflows.
• Knowledge of identity protocols such as SAML, OpenID Connect, OAuth 2.0, SCIM, WS-Federation.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop secure, scalable SSO and identity-broker services using Python.
• Build APIs and platform capabilities for authentication, federation, and integration across products.
• Own complex components from design through testing and delivery.
• Evaluate security, scalability, performance, and extensibility tradeoffs.
• Document major technical decisions with designs and ADRs.
• Turn ambiguous requirements into technical specs and incremental plans.
• Leverage AI-assisted tools across the development lifecycle.
• Validate security and correctness through automated testing and reviews.
• Deliver high-quality software with robust development practices.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and architecture teams on cross-product integration.
• Strengthen engineering practices across the squad.
