Job summary

MissionHires is seeking a Senior Firmware Engineer specializing in Flash Translation Layer (FTL) development for SSD firmware. This role will design, optimize, validate, and debug FTL architecture, including garbage collection, wear leveling, metadata handling, and recovery mechanisms.

The ideal candidate brings strong C/C++ skills, NAND flash knowledge, and the ability to work independently in a collaborative engineering environment, coordinating with validation, hardware, and ASIC teams.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, CS, or related field.
• 3+ years of software or firmware applications engineering experience.
• 3+ years SSD controller/firmware architecture experience.
• Strong C/C++ programming and data structures knowledge.
• Hands-on experience with JTAG or ICE debuggers.
• Experience using Git and version control systems.
• Ability to work independently in a small-team environment.
• Mandarin reading/writing preferred; familiarity with NAND/SATA/PCIe/NVMe beneficial.
• Linux system debugging experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain FTL architecture with I/O flows, garbage collection, and wear leveling.
• Develop bad-block detection, lifecycle management, and data-migration mechanisms.
• Design robust metadata structures for fast mapping-table reconstruction and boot.
• Implement measures against NAND issues: read disturb, program/erase, retention loss.
• Develop RAID encode/decode flows for data reliability.
• Design and validate power-loss protection and recovery algorithms.
• Optimize channel, die, and plane scheduling for throughput and latency.
• Improve DRAM/SRAM efficiency and reduce write amplification.
• Analyze FTL traces/logs for performance profiling and root-cause analysis.
• Collaborate with validation, hardware, and ASIC teams to resolve cross-functional issues.
