Job summary

Duolingo is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to work with product and platform teams to keep distributed systems reliable, scalable and observable. You will help design resilient platforms, diagnose complex issues in production, and drive improvements across services.

Ideal candidates bring deep experience with large-scale systems, proficiency in Java/Kotlin/Python/Go, and strong familiarity with containers and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.

Qualifications

• Experience identifying and solving issues in large-scale distributed systems.
• Proficiency with Java, Kotlin, Python or Go.
• Understanding of containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes, Mesos, Nomad).

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with internal teams to identify instability in distributed systems and drive operational excellence.
• Support core infrastructure, diagnose and debug in production.
• Provide system design consulting and conduct launch reviews and root cause analysis.
• Maintain postmortem/incident response practices and document them.
• Improve reliability, scalability and velocity through changes.
• Develop tooling to reduce toil and automate repetitive tasks.
• Collaborate with engineering to release new features and become a services authority.
