Job summary

Alpaca in NYC is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to maintain a reliable brokerage API platform across cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, and data layers. The role emphasizes PostgreSQL reliability on the trading-critical path while remaining a well-rounded SRE.

You will own SRE practices, refine SLIs/SLOs, and improve observability. Strong Go or Python skills and hands-on Kubernetes are required, with mentorship to grow the team’s database expertise.

Qualifications

• 4+ years in SRE, DevOps, Platform/Infra, or backend with production ownership.
• Hands-on experience operating production services on Kubernetes.
• Solid knowledge of PostgreSQL in production, including indexing and online migrations.
• Cloud networking fundamentals and cross-service debugging.
• Proficiency in Go or Python and strong communication skills.
• Familiarity with a modern observability stack and Linux at the operator level.

Responsibilities

• Operate production day-to-day: oncall, incident response, postmortems.
• Own reliability practice: define SLIs/SLOs and error budgets.
• Strengthen observability across metrics, logs, traces, and alerts.
• Ship infrastructure through code in a GitOps workflow.
• Look after PostgreSQL performance, migrations, and HA/DR.
• Mentor engineers on reliability and database fundamentals.
