Job summary

Abbott is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to join our on-site DevOps team in California. You will ensure Merlin.net’s reliability, performance, and scalability, supporting a remote patient data platform used by clinicians worldwide.

Responsibilities include building fault-tolerant systems, defining SLI/SLOs, implementing monitoring and automation, and collaborating with software, security, and regulatory teams to maintain data integrity and availability in a healthcare context.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience accepted.
• 7+ years in site reliability, software engineering, or related discipline.
• Excellent communication across cross‑functional teams and stakeholders.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, debugging skills for distributed systems.
• Proficiency in at least one scripting/automation language (Python/Go/Bash/PowerShell).
• Expertise with Microsoft Azure services (AKS, Monitor, DevOps, Policy).
• Kubernetes and Docker at scale; deployment strategies and cluster ops.
• Observability tools: Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/EFK, Datadog, etc.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain highly available, fault-tolerant systems meeting uptime and safety requirements.
• Identify and remove performance bottlenecks for low latency, high throughput services.
• Define and monitor SLIs/SLOs and error budgets; manage incident response.
• Develop comprehensive monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting solutions.
• Automate provisioning, deployment, testing, and recovery tasks.
• Scale services and infrastructure across cloud deployments (Azure).
• Collaborate with security, QA, and compliance teams to ensure data integrity and confidentiality.
• Create runbooks and playbooks; lead blameless postmortems and action follow-through.
• Partner with cross-functional teams on architecture reviews and reliability roadmaps.
