Job summary

MongoDB is seeking a Senior SRE with a strong networking background to design and operate its multi-cloud Kubernetes foundation, deployment pipelines, and observability platforms. You will own parts of the network architecture, service mesh integrations, and edge load balancing.

You will collaborate with internal teams to improve connectivity, resolve incidents, and contribute to scalable, secure, and resilient infrastructure across cloud providers. A 24/7 on-call rotation is part of the role.

Qualifications

Deep networking expertise across TCP/IP (incl. IPv6), DNS, TLS/mTLS, and BGP.
Experience with multi-cloud networking and service mesh/load balancing.
Strong background in distributed systems and automation.

Job description

Platform Engineering sits within SRE and builds the core infrastructure behind MongoDB’s engineering organization, from its multi-cloud Kubernetes foundation to deployment pipelines and global observability platforms. The Fabric team manages the global network substrate for secure communication between internal microservices and incoming public internet traffic, owning network architecture, service mesh topologies, and edge load balancing. As a Senior SRE with a strong networking background, you will use your expertise in networking, distributed systems, and automation to keep these systems resilient, scalable, and reliable.

Key Responsibilities

Contribute to a significant re-architecture of MongoDB’s multi-cloud, globally connected network, bringing your experience to design discussions and owning meaningful parts of the work
Collaborate with service-owning teams to provide internal support, resolve technical issues, and share best practices for service-to-service connectivity
Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to quickly resolve network architecture and connectivity issues with minimal disruption and high availability

Requirements

US citizenship, as the position supports MongoDB’s FedRAMP authorized environment
5+ years of experience working on software and operating distributed systems
Deep networking expertise, including TCP/IP (with IPv6), DNS, TLS/mTLS, BGP, tunnels, overlays, and SDN principles
Familiarity with the network design primitives of at least one of AWS, Azure, or GCP, such as VPCs, subnetting, routing, VPNs, peering, private link / private service connect, and CDNs
Strong knowledge of service mesh and load-balancing concepts, and eagerness to implement them in a multi-cloud environment
Customer-focused mindset that drives improvements for end users
Strong preference for automation over manual processes
