Job summary

tastytrade, part of IG Group, seeks a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to shape our reliability practice from day one. You will define SLOs, error budgets, and observability standards for order execution, market data delivery, and production readiness across services in Ruby, Java, and Elixir.

You will mentor teams, extend the observability stack, and drive production readiness efforts in a HashiCorp Nomad environment, influencing standards across multiple engineering groups.

Qualifications

• Production-quality coding experience in Ruby and/or Java, plus Python for automation.
• Embed SRE practices within engineering teams, including SLOs and error budgets.
• Hands-on with observability tools to instrument services.

Responsibilities

• Define customer-meaningful SLOs and set error budgets with multi-window burn-rate alerting for critical brokerage flows.
• Author tastytrade's first reliability standards, including SLO methodology and observability guide.
• Contribute reliability patterns (circuit breakers, retries, bulkheads) into Ruby, Java, Elixir services.
• Extend observability stack and guide teams as they scale workloads across Nomad service fabric.
• Design and run tabletop exercises and fault-injection testing to stress-test the platform.
• Mentor engineers to build a culture of site reliability champions.
