Job summary

The MTA is seeking a Senior SQL Server Database Administrator for a 12-month contract based in New York, with hybrid work arranged at 2 Broadway, NY 10004. The role focuses on designing, implementing, maintaining, tuning and optimizing Microsoft SQL Server and Azure Managed Instance databases to meet current and future application requirements.

Responsibilities include SQL Server installations, upgrades and migrations; patching coordination; backup and recovery planning; security and compliance;

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, or equivalent experience.
• Expert knowledge in Windows Server, SQL Server, Azure cloud platform and specifically SQL Managed Instance, Azure Storage account and Azure security fundamentals.
• Experience implementing High availability (Always-on).
• Strong Knowledge of SQL. Knowledge of Python is preferred.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on logical troubleshooting.
• Certifications in Microsoft technologies are preferred

Responsibilities

• Design and oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of database technologies and resources to ensure that all MTA application and systems availability targets are met.
• Perform database administration tasks including but not limited to data process flows, data modeling, data migrations, security and performance tuning.
• Design, configure and install database software modules and applications.
• Develop system backup schedules, verification testing and all related documentation requirements.
• Collaborate with system admins, network admins, help desk, and other IT resources to coordinate database infrastructure requirements and troubleshoot issues.
• Ensure documentation and asset management per MTA policies and procedures.
• Evaluate new database products and technologies and influence future direction in the MTA environment.
• Guide less senior database technicians and staff in task performance.
• Design, engineer and document solutions and standards for the IT Department.
• Contribute to planning and coordination of database installations and maintenance.
