Job summary

Universal Logistics Holdings, Inc. seeks an experienced SQL Server DBA to administer and optimize enterprise SQL Server environments. You will implement Always On high availability, manage backups and DR, and automate routine tasks using PowerShell and T-SQL.

You will partner with app and infra teams on schema design, performance tuning, and release planning, while supporting SSRS/Qlik reporting workloads and maintaining security and compliance.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience administering Microsoft SQL Server in enterprise environments.
• Strong hands-on experience with Always On Availability Groups in multi-site environments.
• Experience implementing and managing backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies for mission-critical databases.
• Proficiency with database automation and scripting (PowerShell, T-SQL).
• Hands-on experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Qlik, and other data presentation or reporting tools.
• Experience supporting and tuning reporting workloads for BI and analytics use cases.
• Experience with database monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Idera SQL DM, native SQL Server monitoring).
• Solid understanding of SQL Server security best practices, including least-privilege access and auditing.

Responsibilities

• Administer, configure, and optimize SQL Server environments, including performance tuning and DR.
• Design, implement, and maintain highly available database architectures (Always On).
• Lead database performance diagnostics, queries, indexing, and workload analysis.
• Collaborate with application teams on schema design, standards, and release planning.
• Develop proactive monitoring and alerting to identify risks before impact.
• Automate DBA tasks using scripting and standardized processes.
• Manage database lifecycle: upgrades, patching, migrations.
• Ensure security/compliance with access controls and auditing.
• Support reporting/analytics workloads for business users.
• Maintain technical docs and runbooks; research new tools and best practices.
