Job summary

CALAMP WIRELESS NETWORKS CORPORATION is seeking a hands-on Database Engineer to support 9 production SQL Server instances, optimize queries, and partner with developers on scalable data architecture in a growing SaaS platform.

You’ll review schema changes, design for future PostgreSQL reporting, explore AWS cost optimization, and lead archival and ETL automation while maintaining reliability and strong written communication.

Qualifications

4–8 years of hands‑on DBA/Database Engineering experience with SQL Server.
Database SME mindset with design reviews and collaboration with developers.
PostgreSQL proficiency — or willingness to develop for future reporting architecture.
Cloud database experience on AWS; self‑hosted SQL Server on EC2 today; RDS familiarity is a plus.
Strong performance tuning: you can discuss fixed queries and optimization.
Strong SQL: query writing, plan reading, indexing, locking and isolation.
Scripting in Python or PowerShell for automation.
Linux and Windows both.
HA / replication (Always On, log shipping, transactional).
Strong written communication; able to defend proposals in an opinionated team.
Bachelor’s in CS, Information Systems, or equivalent practical track.

Responsibilities

Performance — diagnose and fix slow queries across 9 SQL Server instances.
Lead reporting replica architecture and separate analytical workload.
Archival — data retention strategy with automated processes.
AWS cost optimization for SQL Server on EC2.
Schema migrations and ETL — automate, reliable, low‑risk.
Database SME for engineering — review schema changes and provide design insight.
On‑call rotation every five weeks; on‑call hours ET.
Use AI tools to improve database workflows and efficiency.
