Bloomberg L.P. in New York is seeking a Senior SQL & Hosted Services Engineer to maintain and improve Bloomberg's globally distributed SQL databases and hosting platforms.

You will work with a global engineering team to drive reliability, automation, and service availability across SQL-backed workloads and compute/storage platforms. The role focuses on delivering operational excellence, implementing standards, and expanding automation, with opportunities to influence platform strategy and future

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or equivalent systems and platform experience.
• 4+ years of experience designing, building and supporting Microsoft SQL Server infrastructure and Windows failover clustering technology to deliver high availability.
• Good working knowledge of enterprise-scale virtualization platforms, multiple Windows Operating System environments, SAN and NAS storage systems and TCP/IP networking.
• Solid understanding of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, DFS, Sites and Services, SPNs, service accounts, and related Windows Server platform services.
• Experience supporting enterprise backup and disaster recovery processes.
• Working knowledge of PowerShell, Python, SQL/T-SQL, or similar automation and scripting technologies.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, documentation, and communication skills with a focus on operational excellence and continuous improvement.
• Ability to quickly learn new technologies and work collaboratively across multiple engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the availability, reliability, and operational readiness of compute, storage, virtualization, SQL and supporting platform services.
• Identify and deliver improvements to reliability, simplify processes, reduce manual effort and increase automation across supported platforms
• Help to define and implement operational standards, metrics, documentation and playbooks that improve consistency and supportability.
• Contribute to platform lifecycle improvements, helping engineer services that are easy to operate, monitor, and scale.
• Embrace new technologies, operational practices, and ways of working that improve service delivery and support our long-term platform strategy.
• Improve monitoring, alerting, telemetry, and service health reporting to proactively identify risk and reduce service impact.
