Job summary

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority seeks a SQL Database Administrator to design, implement, maintain, tune and optimize all databases to meet current and future application needs.

The role is hybrid in NYC with on-site work 3 days per week. Key duties include SQL Server and Azure Managed Instance databases, backups, performance tuning, security, and collaboration with IT and development teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or equivalent experience.
• Expert knowledge in Windows Server, SQL Server, Azure cloud platform and specifically SQL Managed Instance, Azure Storage account and Azure security fundamental.
• Experience implementing High availability (Always-on).
• Strong Knowledge of SQL. Knowledge of Python is preferred.
• Certifications in Microsoft technologies are preferred

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of database technologies to ensure availability targets are met.
• Perform database administration tasks including data modeling, migrations, security and tuning.
• Design, configure and install database software modules and applications.
• Develop backup schedules, verification testing and related documentation.
• Collaborate with system and network teams to coordinate infrastructure requirements and troubleshoot issues.
• Maintain documentation in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Evaluate new database products and technologies and influence future direction.
• Guide less senior database staff in task performance.
• Design, engineer and document solutions and standards for IT.
• Coordinate tasks related to database installations, support and maintenance.
