Job summary

The City of New York Law Department seeks a permanent Computer Specialist (Software) to work independently on a broad range of highly technical applications development tasks. You will design, implement, and maintain cloud and hybrid data architectures while ensuring system availability and security.

Responsibilities include data integration, ETL development, and database administration with a focus on SQL Server, Azure SQL, Power BI, SSRS, and SSIS.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include a four-year college degree with CS credits and software experience, or an equivalent combination.
• 6+ years in software as described, including leadership experience as Project Leader or major contributor.
• 7+ years in Microsoft Azure SQL development and SQL Server DBA roles, plus Power BI, SSRS/SSIS.
• Aplus: knowledge of AI tools, Copilot, Windows environments, and cloud services.
• Experience in supervisory roles and maintaining high system availability is required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and lead projects as part of past experience.
• Design, develop, automate, and maintain database best practices and security controls.
• Build data pipelines using ETL tools like ADF/SSIS and interface with multiple data sources.
• Install and configure SQL Server and failover clusters, ensuring high availability.
• Monitor production issues and perform patching, tuning, and security updates.
• Document processes and collaborate with development teams on specs and delivery.
