Job summary

St. Luke’s University Health Network seeks an experienced Senior Sports & Recreation Specialist to plan and lead youth programs across its sports and wellness offerings. You will develop curricula, supervise staff, and ensure a positive, inclusive environment for participants.

The role requires strong leadership and communication skills, with 3–5 years of related experience and a Bachelor’s degree in a recreation- or education-related field. Collaborative, community-focused work is emphasized.

Job description

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan, coordinate, implement, and lead sports, recreation, fitness, wellness, enrichment, and physical activity programs for youth and community participants.
• Develop lesson plans, program curriculum, activities, and instructional content that promote age-appropriate skill development, physical literacy, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyles.
• Lead and facilitate daily programming including camps, clinics, after-school programs, PlayFit programs, introductory sports classes, recreational leagues, special events, and community initiatives.
• Serve as a lead instructor and role model for participants while creating a positive, safe, inclusive, and engaging environment.
• Assist with planning seasonal program offerings, schedules, special events, and community engagement activities.
• Mentor, train, support, and provide guidance to Sports & Recreation Specialists, coaches, instructors, volunteers, and part-time staff.
• Monitor program quality and participant satisfaction while identifying opportunities for improvement and growth.
• Coordinate facility space, equipment, supplies, staffing needs, and operational logistics to support programs.
• Manage program registrations, attendance tracking, participant records, and administrative reporting.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for participants, parents, caregivers, schools, community groups, and program partners.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility for extended periods.
• Ability to use standard office equipment including computers and mobile devices.
• Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically.
• Ability to travel locally for meetings, events, and networking opportunities.

EDUCATION

Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Sports Management, Exercise Science, Education, Parks & Recreation, or related field preferred.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

• Three to five years of experience in recreation programming, parks and recreation, youth development, physical education, sports instruction, coaching, camp administration, or a related field required.
• Experience leading youth sports programs, camps, enrichment programs, after-school programs, recreational activities, or community engagement initiatives preferred.
• Strong leadership, communication, customer service, organizational, and problem-solving skills required.
