Job summary

YMCA of San Diego County is seeking a Sports Instructor Lead to supervise youth and adult sports, plan practices, clinics, and games, and model safe, positive programming at the Copley-Price Family YMCA.

The role requires 2+ years of youth/adult sports experience, a high school diploma or GED, CPR/AED and First Aid certification, and the ability to supervise staff and communicate with families. Fingerprinting is required under state regulations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2+ years’ experience working with youth and adult sports.
• Ability to supervise and interact with staff and athletes.
• CPR/AED and First Aid Certification required, Adult and Child/Infant, from listed certifying organizations.

Responsibilities

• Plan, lead, and supervise assigned youth and adult sport practices, clinics, and games. Prepares game schedules and confirm attendance.
• Prepare sports fields and courts for use including equipment set up and breakdown.
• Provide ongoing training, supervision, and support for all Sports Instructors and Sports Instructor Assistants.
• Maintain a safe environment ensuring playing areas are suitable for game play.
• Serve as a score keeper for assigned games.
• Maintain a positive relationship with staff, participants, volunteer coaches, and parents.
• Track attendance of participants in games, clinics, and practices, along with maintaining records.
• Ensure effective communication with parents, colleagues, volunteers, and participants.
• Ability to supervise and interact with staff and participants.
• The physical ability to lead in group activities and to perform related physical skills.
• Ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations and apply appropriate policies and procedures.
