Job summary

SCB is seeking a talented Specification Writer to join our Chicago office. We are a national, multi-disciplinary design firm focusing on multi-family residential, adaptive reuse, academic, hospitality, commercial interiors, and aviation projects.

At SCB, every team member contributes to design excellence. You will prepare specifications and project manuals, collaborate with consultants, and support development under senior leadership.

Qualifications

• Accredited professional degree in architecture or related field such as Engineering or Construction Management.
• 10+ years post-graduate, full-time experience in an architectural firm.
• Licensed Architect in the U.S. preferred.
• CSI CDT Certification preferred.
• LEED AP preferred.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Working knowledge of building codes.
• Advanced technical knowledge of building systems, material assemblies, and engineering concepts.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Newforma, Teams; familiarity with SpecLink preferred.

Responsibilities

• Engage with project teams to facilitate assembly of the specifications and project manual.
• Assist the project team with the technical development of the project.
• Monitor project document progress, provide feedback on open issues, and review and edit specifications.
• Manage time and organize tasks effectively to meet project deadlines.
• Maintain and evolve SCB’s template specifications as required.
• Research and maintain current manufacturer information and code requirements to support specification development.
• Collaborate with technical directors and sustainability leader to provide high-quality specification deliverables.
• Participate in ongoing continuing education and industry events for specification development.
• Engage with project and studio teams with a positive, team-first attitude and willingness to learn and contribute to the project’s and firm’s success.
