Job summary

Mechanics Bank in California seeks a Sr. Special Assets Officer to join on-site at Irvine, Roseville, or Walnut Creek. Lead problem commercial loans, including C&I and CRE, and coordinate with the Retail Special Assets group as needed. Develop resolutions, negotiate terms, and monitor REO assets.

Requires a 4-year degree (or equivalent), 7 years’ experience in special assets, and strong knowledge of bankruptcy, litigation, regulatory requirements, and credit analysis. Travel 0–10%.

Qualifications

• 4 Year / Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• 7 years of experience in special assets management including C&I and CRE loans.
• Knowledge of bankruptcy and litigation processes and strong negotiating skills.
• Ability to work with senior management and internal/external parties.
• Understanding of risk grading and accounting concepts.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements for loan restructuring and foreclosure in CA/WA.
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative work style.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong understanding of credit analysis and policy procedures.
• Proficient with Windows suite of programs (Excel, Word, Access, Lotus Notes).

Responsibilities

• Assess issues with problem loans and independently develop strategies to resolve them.
• Identify cost-effective resolutions for loans and REO properties.
• Underwrite loan modifications and prepare periodic reports.
• Develop and implement repayment plans for problem loans.
• Negotiate loan modification terms with clients.
• Recommend risk rating changes and charge-offs.
• Act as primary contact with related third parties for monitoring and collections.
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal/state laws and bank policies.
• Travel as required: 0-10%.
