Job summary

Katalyst Space in Colorado is seeking an experienced mechanical engineer to design, model, and flight-qualify spacecraft mechanisms and payloads for the NEXUS-1 program. You will create CAD models, detailed drawings, and perform tolerance analyses, working with cross-functional teams including electrical, software, and systems engineering.

Qualifications

  • 5–8 years designing, modeling, and flight-qualifying spacecraft mechanisms or payloads.
  • 3+ years running FEA analyses for vibration and shock in spacecraft contexts.
  • Strong knowledge of material behavior, tribology, and electromechanical systems.
  • Experience with machining, welding, forming, and joining processes.

Responsibilities

  • Tightly work with the NEXUS-1 spacecraft team to ensure upgrades integrate smoothly.
  • Create and iterate CAD models and manufacturing drawings with tolerance analyses.
  • Develop dynamic models and analyze deployable assemblies and in-space robotic systems.
  • Interface with electrical, software, and systems teams to meet requirements.
  • Support mechanical integration, testing, and field troubleshooting.
