Job summary

Apex Technology, Inc. in Playa Vista, CA, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design, analysis, and development of critical spacecraft hardware from concept through qualification and flight.

You will work across engineering and production to deliver lightweight, manufacturable flight hardware. You will develop complex 3D CAD models (NX), perform FEA, define materials, GD&T drawings, and collaborate with electrical, thermal, propulsion, and quality teams to ensure

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years of experience in mechanical design for aerospace.
• Experience owning hardware from concept through test.
• Strong 3D CAD and engineering drawing skills; NX preferred.
• Knowledge of GD&T, FEA, and structural analysis.
• Experience with aerospace manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

• Own the mechanical design and development of spacecraft structures from concept through flight.
• Create complex 3D CAD models, assemblies, and detailed drawings for flight hardware.
• Perform structural analysis using FEA and hand calculations.
• Drive design trades optimizing mass, structure, manufacturability, cost, and schedule.
• Define material, manufacturing process, and finish selections for spaceflight hardware.
• Release production-ready drawings using GD&T and applicable standards.
• Collaborate with electrical, thermal, propulsion, manufacturing, quality, and systems teams.
• Support hardware builds, resolve issues, and iterate designs.
• Lead hardware through assembly, integration, qualification, and environmental testing.
• Analyze test results and drive corrective design changes.
• Lead design reviews and communicate technical decisions and risks.
• Mentor junior engineers and improve mechanical design practices.
