Job summary

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) in Acton, MA is seeking a Systems Engineer - Software for Space EO/IR Payload initiatives within the Optical Sensor System Group. You will own software strategy and execution across all lifecycle phases, from concept to on-orbit operations, interfacing with hardware teams and system-level engineering.

The role requires experience with EO/IR sensors, C/C++, Python, RTOS, and embedded systems, with a DoD security clearance being highly desirable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's/Master's/PhD with progressive engineering experience as described in the posting.
• Experience with EO/IR space sensors design, assembly, test, and operation.
• Ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance; current clearance highly desired.

Responsibilities

• Apply electro-optical/IR knowledge to develop space payload system architectures.
• Support concept development, system architecture, requirements, and trade studies.
• Decompose system requirements to software requirements and verify interfaces.
• Collaborate on ICDs updates and cybersecurity considerations.
• Lead software-related reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and risk/opportunity analysis.
• Provide technical guidance and issue resolution for software subcontracts.
