Job summary

Axiom Space is seeking a bold Prototype Engineering Technician to build mockups and prototype hardware for conceptual models, human factors assessments, and crew training. You will work with design and production teams, interpret drawings, maintain tooling, and use various materials—from wood to composites—to create representative hardware.

The role requires expertise with shop machinery, CAD/CAM software, and the ability to meet tight milestones in a fast-moving environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; 8–15 years in fabrication, R&D, or shop environment.
• Ability to operate hand and power tools, including safety-conscious use of miter saws and drill presses.
• Knowledge of materials, fasteners, and manufacturing processes.
• Ability to interpret schematics and assembly drawings.
• 3D printers, laser cutters, and CNC router experience a plus.
• CAD/CAM software knowledge (Solidworks, Rhino 3D, Mastercam, or VCarve) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with design and engineering teams to develop projects.
• Lead fabrication of mockups and prototypes.
• Use hand tools, power tools, and machines to fabricate components.
• Manufacture products from wood, metal, composites, and plastic.
• Operate shop equipment: table saws, drill presses, CNC routers, laser cutters.
• Set up and maintain equipment; assist in prototyping capabilities development.
• Communicate progress and issues to stakeholders and leadership.
• Apply agile project management methods throughout the project lifecycle.
