Job summary

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) in Acton, MA seeks an Opto-Mechanical Structural Engineer/Analyst to design, develop and produce spaceborne electro-optical sensor payloads.

You will perform quasi-static, modal, vibration and thermal analyses using Femap and Nastran, develop design review packages and support environmental testing and supplier interactions as required. The role emphasizes ownership, teamwork and rigorous engineering.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in engineering with 12+ yrs (B.S.), 10+ yrs (M.S.), or 7+ yrs (Ph.D.) of progressive engineering experience.
• 2–3 yrs of experience with Nastran-based finite element modeling; Femap training available.
• Ability to perform static, dynamic structural and thermal analyses.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and perform tolerance assessments.
• DoD security clearance eligibility is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform quasi-static, modal, random vibration, and thermal stress analyses using Femap and Nastran.
• Provide mechanical engineering support to project teams and track work.
• Understand design requirements and ensure compliance.
• Generate and present design review packages for internal and external audiences.
• Support customer and supplier interactions as required.
• Develop conceptual designs for new products and proposals.
• Plan and support environmental testing of hardware (vibration, shock, thermal).
• Conduct root cause analyses on hardware failures and propose solutions.
