Job summary

Orbit Fab, Inc. is seeking an experienced mechanical engineer in Lafayette, CO to lead design, analysis, and optimization of spaceflight mechanisms from concept through production.

You will prototype, iterate, and maintain CAD models while collaborating with Systems Engineering to ensure integration with electrical and fluid subsystems. The role requires hands-on hardware work, a strong CAD background, and experience bringing products to operation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
• 5+ years in mechanism or robotics design, fabrication, and/or test.
• Proficiency in CAD.
• Experience taking a product from concept to operation.
• Knowledge of space-rated materials and design trades.
• Autonomous and team collaboration.
• Strong sense of urgency and prioritization in a fast-paced environment.
• Background in GD&T, materials selection, and manufacturing methods.
• Excellent communication, analytical, organizational, strategic, statistical, and personal skills.
• Willing to work a hybrid schedule (3-5 days on site) in Lafayette, CO.

Responsibilities

• Mechanical design and analysis of space mechanisms.
• Ideate and prototype solutions to design problems.
• Develop and maintain CAD models, design docs, and manufacturing drawings.
• Perform design verification and evaluate environmental compliance.
• Coordinate with Systems Engineering to ensure integration with other subsystems.
• Iterate designs to inform product direction and system-level trades.
• Apply design for manufacturability (DFM/DFA) to improve manufacturing efficiency.
• Manage lifecycle from qualification testing to delivery with program management support.
• Proactively address technical challenges.
• Communicate effectively with team members and customers.
