Job summary

Viasat is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our space infrastructure team. You will contribute to the design, development, qualification, and production transition of mechanical systems for next-generation satellite platforms.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in spacecraft mechanical design, perform analyses, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver reliable flight hardware and innovative solutions throughout the product lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience developing spaceflight hardware.
• Experience designing flight hardware using CAD tools (Creo, SolidWorks, NX).
• Experience with engineering analysis tools (ANSYS, Nastran, Simcenter, Thermal Desktop).
• Knowledge of environmental qualification testing (vibration, thermal vacuum).
• U.S. Citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical design for satellite structures and deployable systems.
• Perform structural, thermal, vibration, and environmental analyses.
• Support design until qualification, production, integration, and on-orbit support.
• Develop requirements, drawings, and qualification plans.
• Contribute to design reviews and present data to leadership.
• Collaborate with systems, thermal, electrical, manufacturing, reliability, and supply chain teams.
