Job summary

Viasat is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer, MGSE to join our space infrastructure team. You will lead the design, development, fabrication, analysis and implementation of MGSE for satellite platform integration, testing, transport, and launch.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related STEM.
• 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience in spaceflight hardware or MGSE.
• Experience with non-flight integration and test hardware such as lifting fixtures.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling tools and drafting standards.
• Experience with structural analysis tools including hand calculations and FEA (ANSYS, Nastran, Simcenter).
• Fabrication support, proof load testing, and acceptance testing of mechanical structures.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to work cross-functionally.
• U.S. Citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design, modeling, and drafting of MGSE hardware in 3D CAD.
• Evaluate trade studies and definitions to balance performance, schedule, cost, and safety.
• Perform structural analysis including hand calcs and FEA.
• Coordinate fabrication, proof load testing, acceptance testing, and vendor inspections.
• Support end-users during integration and test operations, including process development.
• Create engineering requirements, drawings, procedures, and qualification plans.
• Participate in Design Reviews and present data to leadership.
• Collaborate with systems, thermal, electrical, manufacturing, reliability, and supply chain teams.
